My Morning Ritual

RITUALS2015-bannerMy dear friend Amy and I have had many conversations about beauty, about rituals, about creating magic in every day life. She is someone who has taught me the magic that can exist within a single cup of morning tea. I was lucky enough to visit her home one day and create a little movie about some of her daily rituals. With the launch of the movie we made, she also launched a creative project where various artist share their daily rituals (http://www.treespacestudio.com/home/rituals2015/ ).

I was invited to participate.

I thought about my daily rituals and realized, that I’m not as steady with some things as I should be. Some mornings I have tea, sometimes I have smoothies, sometimes I skip breakfast altogether because I slept too late and am rushing about. Some mornings I go to a shoot, sometimes I read, sometimes I take a walk, but nothing is really set. I think I had so many years in the work force with the same routine (being a high school teacher), that I have embraced this second year of self employment by letting a lot of my “schedule” be different on a day to day basis.

But there is one thing I do every day.

And I made a little video about it.

To me, I’m a story teller first and foremost. I lay in bed each morning and see images of things I want to create. Things I want to capture–emotions I want to make realized. For me, dreaming each morning before I start my day helps me understand what I am passionate about, it helps me interact with people in magical ways, it helps me believe in possibility and purpose, it helps me push boundaries and become expansive. This little mind exploration each morning is key to living my life continually as an artist.

What are your morning rituals?
